Devotional Songs - Pad Kirtan
on Hori Madhuri
(The Sweetness of the Feeling of Divine Separation)

This is from the collection of devotional songs or pad kirtan in "Prem Ras Madira" on Viraha Madhuri or the sweetness of divine separation.

separation

The feeling of separation of Shri Radha and the Gopis from their divine beloved Krishna has been described extensively in the writings of Rasik Saints.

These extremely touching expressions of deep longing reveal the sweetness and greatness of divine love.

Since there is no longing after God realization, the Gopis -- who were all God realized Saints -- were actually experiencing an elevated state of divine love bliss which expressed itself as longing.

For the seeker of Radha Krishna's divine love, the expressions of the Gopis in this state of divine viraha are also the guidelines for developing true and selfless devotion.

As such, using these descriptions as a base for your devotional imagination, visualize the scene, actions, and feelings that these pads evoke. Click here for Hindi.

"Ankhiyan Sakhi, Ya Roop Lubhani"

prem ras madira

Ankhiyan sakhi! Ya roop lubhani.
"Oh my friend! My eyes are attracted to His beauty."

Dekhan chahat kamal-dal-lochan, sunan chahat mridu bani.
"My eyes desire to see only lotus-eyed Krishn; my ears only desire to hear His sweet voice."

Haun samujhavat hari thaki pai, inane ek na mani.
"I have tried to reason with them, that they shouldn't fall in love with Krishna, but they never listened to me."

Nahin sukhat ekahun chin kahan sakhi!
In ankhiyan ko pani.

"Now, dear friend, tears are flowing from my eyes all the time. They don't stop even for a single moment."

Taji deeni trin sam in nigurin, lok laj jul kani.
"These shameless eyes have utterly abandoned all family and social concerns."

Jo 'Kripalu' honi thi ho gai, ab ka honi jani.
Jagadguru Shri Kripaluji Maharaj replied in the words of her friend, "My dear Gopi! What is the use of regretting this? You can't do anything about it now. Whatever was supposed to happen, has happened."
